OSLO, Norway, April 18 – Kono Airbag Fender Co., Ltd., collaborating with Oslo Shipyard, a leading Nordic shipbuilder, has successfully launched a 5,000-ton cargo vessel using 16 sets of its proprietary high-pressure explosion-proof airbags. This achievement marks a major breakthrough for airbag launching technology in Scandinavia and sets a new regional tonnage record.
The vessel's massive size demanded exceptional safety and stability from the support system. Kono's solution centered on its specialized high-pressure airbags, operating at 0.15 MPa. Working in unison, the 16 black airbags formed a flexible yet robust "aquatic track," evenly distributing the ship's weight under precise control to achieve a near "zero-impact" launch, completed safely and efficiently.
An Oslo Shipyard project lead praised the collaboration: "Kono airbags demonstrated impressive reliability and technical capability. The successful launch of this 5,000-ton vessel offers us a superior, more economical, and environmentally friendly option for handling large ships."
This successful project validates the exceptional performance of Chinese-made high-end airbag technology under complex sea conditions and stringent industrial requirements. It serves as a win-win model for Sino-Norwegian equipment manufacturing cooperation and offers the global shipping industry a safer, more flexible, and eco-friendly large-vessel launching solution. Industry experts anticipate this success will accelerate the adoption of high-pressure airbag technology in global shipyards, particularly in environmentally conscious European markets.
